Lucky like a four-leaf clover!

Howdy folks!
Okay, wait...that was a weird opening after being MIA for the last week.
Let's try again.
Hooooooooowdy folks!
Ehhh??
No.
Two years of Oklahoma living and I still can't pull it off.
Maybe one day I will.
One day I'll be able to say that phrase as cool and suave as my dad does when he answers the phone.
"Howdy, this is Mike!"
Yep, he really says that.
What makes it even better is that my dad's name is Mike Jones {like the rapper}.
And this Mike Jones {the original, of course}, says "howdy"!
{For more "howdy" talk, refer to the bottom of this post.}
Do you really want to know the best part about having a blog?? You can post as many pictures of yourself as you want and no one questions why or thinks you're weird. Sometimes, if you're having a good hair/makeup/clothes day, you need evidence. That's what blogs are for. Or at least, that's what my blog is for. Evidence that I wear more than just sweat pants.
Speaking of my blog....we are feeling quite lucky and lovely today!
Lissa over at The Looking Glass nominated us for The Lovely Blog Award!
We are both {the blog and I} so flattered! Thank you, thank you, thank you Lissa! We think you and your blog are lovely and we are most definitely kindred spirits! :)
So, in order to accept this award, I get to share 15 of my favorite blogs {and ladies behind the blog} with you as well as seven facts about myself! These girls keep me inspired, laughing and totally entertained! Check them out!

{1} I only like my coffee out of a cup. Not a mug.
Call me crazy, but I can't stand the taste of coffee in a mug. The insulation in the mug completely sucks out the rich and bold taste that coffee brings to my life. Plus, when the lid is closed, the coffee has no place to sweat except inside the coffee! So essentially, you're drinking coffee sweat. And I don't know about you, but I like my coffee sweat-free! Oh, and one more thing, mugs are rarely if ever as cute and cozy as cups! :)

{2} I'm a closet song-writer.
There's total sarcasm in this statement because no, I don't write songs. I can't even hold a tune. I'm truly tone-deaf. But, I CAN do a mean lip synch and air guitar! When I say I write songs, I really mean I change the words to songs that exist and sing them to husband. Sometimes he loves them and most of the time they make both of us laugh....really hard! Maybe I'm a closet comedian?!

{3} I prefer my nails & toenails au-natural.
Now this one is mostly due to my laziness. And my germaphobia. After working in a dermatology office and seeing wayyyyy too many pedicure induced infections come through the door, I'm paranoid about even setting a tip-toe inside those salons without knowing their complete bleaching history! And since my nails grow so fast, I feel like I would have to change my toenail polish weekly in order to keep up! Hence, the nakedness on my hands and feet. I don't have the patience to keep up with it all the time. But every once in awhile, my girly side has a major flare up and you'll catch me with a little bit of rainbow on my fingers and toes! So I guess this one is maybe a contradiction in itself? Story of my life.

{4} I get obsessed with one phrase, and then use it over and over and over...until it dies!!!
Ha! Okay, that sounded superrrr gruesome! But that's kind of how it feels. Currently, my phrase is "cray-cray" instead of saying "crazy". Old phrases include and are not limited to, "homie don't play that" {thanks, Heather} and "I will cut you". Not sure most of them are ghetto-gangster, but I just roll wit it {lean wit it, rock wit it}. Maybe I'm a closet rapper?!

{5} I've been skinny dipping & streaking more times than I can remember.
I've also been caught streaking and skinny dipping more times than I can remember. I guess that means I need a better watch dog?? Ha! Seriously though, there is no more feeling of being "alive & free" than when you're running around in your birthday suit! Haha! Totally my favorite! I make it my goal to induct every single one of my friends into the so-called "club"! But I have yet to induct husband. He thinks that's too wild and free for his tastes. I'll get him one day.
You all know it's on your bucket list...get crackin' girl!

{6} I name inanimate objects.
Yep, pretty much everything around our house has a name. The cars. The bikes. The phones. The trees. I'm kind of like Pocahontas in that way {even though I'm totally Belle in real life}. I think everything has feelings. When we were trimming trees the other day, I felt so sad...almost guilty....with all the tree limbs laying around! It was like a mass murder and I was the perpetrator! I almost wanted to cry! Husband says it just means I have a big heart.

{7} Rodeo Queen
Last but not least, I spent the early years {i.e. jr. high and high school} being a real live rodeo queen! Me and my horsie were quite the team! Our summers were spent in long sleeve sequin shirts, tight jeans, silver and gold plated buckles, and of course, big hair to match the big hats! And I just had to share pictures...mostly because they look like they were taken 20 years ago when this was still in style:

A Little Less Manic Monday

Just another manic Monday?
Nope, not over here!
Lucky me, I didn't have to work today! :)
So here I sit on the front porch, drinking ice cold cherry coke.
Watching the clouds roll by.
Oh wait, isn't that a song?!
Why yes it is! A song that just so happens to parallel my life right now, if only the cherry coke were a sweet tea! This sweet tea, to be exact!
Oh, how I LOVE sweet tea!! It's the epitome of Southern living and I've totally embraced it!
Anyway, if you are having a manic Monday, let me share a couple things with you that totally made me smile!
The first one is a post by Amira over at Shades of Gray. This is the funniest story and will NOT disappoint!
Second, is this lovely music video by a few bloggers who's sites I adore! One of them is Ashley over at Adventures of Newlyweds.

And if that didn't un-manic your Monday, I don't know what will!
Happy Monday!! :)

Pops

Last weekend, the husband and I met up with two of our dearest friends for one last kung-pow before they welcome their little baby in to the world!
We met Linsey and Justin during our time during in Lawton and we're convinced that God created these two gems specifically with us in mind! They're the type of friends that everyone deserves to have. And we're blessed to say we do!
So down the road we went.
Down the Route 66 road, to be exact!
Down to Pops on Route 66.
Pops is one of those little small town treasures that make a drive worth while! It's impossible to miss with a huge soda bottle out front, taller than the building and glowing with multiple LED lights! And that bottle is only a foretelling of what's to come! Pops contains nearly every soda that's ever been made, proudly displayed in their glass windows which surround the building. But it doesn't stop there....step inside, back in time, to a 1950s-esque diner with all things delicious and over 600 milk shake flavors! We ate and drank {soda, of course!} to our hearts content! And then after that, it was time to be adventurous! Not only does Pops display many of their hard-to-come-by sodas, but they also sell them! Matt and I filled up our cute little carrier with six soda flavors that we had never heard of before. {My favorite so far has been the Black Jack's Blood Red Cola!}

Matt and I have determined that wherever we're living, however boring a place it may seem, that we will do our best to take advantage of the time we have there to seek out whatever secret treasures it has to offer! We consider this our way of looking at the glass half-full and living life with no regrets!
Pops is one of those treasures.
Next time, we plan on taking a blanket and taking advantage of the picnic-perfect fields surrounding the station! Absolutely lovely! :)
Be sure to mark your maps!

Food Freak

I have a tendency {especially with food} to become overly obsessed with one thing and eat it {in abundance} over, and over, and over again until I can either a.) no longer stand the sight of it or b.) find something new to replace the obsession.

My current craving?
Oh, just this lovely burrito bowl from the oh-so-delicious Freebirds!

Toppled oh-so-high with jalepeƱos {yes, I like it hot!} and sprinkled with roasted tomatillo dressing!
Yum!!
Before this it was {and still kind of is} fruit smoothies.
At least they're healthy obsessions, right?!

But let's face it, we all have some weird food obsession. Or maybe that's what I tell myself so I can sleep at night.

Tomorrow's Friday!!!! TGIF!!!
Any fun plans for this Easter weekend?

Call me un-American....

So while the rest of America is intently fixed to their tv screen to watch the other annual event that divides America {the first event being the presidential race}, I am taking advantage of this Super Bowl opportunity to have a tv all to myself {if you don't count Lola and Piper}. This includes a New Girl marathon, catching up on my favorite blogs and eating all the yummy, delicious food that comes along with the day!

Really though, my New Girl marathon ends up being a re-run of one episode that I've already watched about 37 times! So if you're part of the 0.157% of Americans that don't watch the Super Bowl, you can join me {and Lola and Piper} in watching this oh-so-fantastic new series! :) So don't feel un-American because Zooey Deschanel is about as American Pie as it gets!

Happy Super Bowl!

A hobby of compromise

Next thing on the update list...Matt and I were going through a list of items, trying to figure out a hobby that we would both enjoy. My list involved all things "North Face" {or so he calls them}, the usual rock climbing, kayaking and biking. His involved pretty much everything opposite of that, but both our eyes lit up when we ran across the word "Photography."  I had taken a class in high school and a college course, but hadn't really used my camera for a couple years. We found him a camera online that needed a few repairs, but luckily he is the fix-all handy-man that isn't even intimidated by SLR digital cameras and was able to fix it!  This equaled two things for us: a major steal of a deal and an opportunity for us to enjoy each other's company while flexing a little bit of our creativity muscles!! We had so much fun and I will admit, it was fun being able to "model" for my hubs! Haha! Here's a few of our combined favorites! :)

LovAcado

I've said it before and I'll say it again....if I could have a love affair, it would be with avocados!!!!! I just absolutely ell-oh-vee-ee them {that spells LOVE, for those of you who didn't grow up on the mickey mouse club songs}! And just when you thought they couldn't get any better, I'm here to introduce you to a brand new way of using them for oh-so-wonderful results! But before I do that, let's take a quick look at the health benefits that they provide!
Numero Uno: Cancer Prevention
Avocados not only taste delicious, but they've also been shown to inhibit the growth of prostate cancer, seek out oral pre-cancerous and cancerous cells and destroy them without harming healthy cells  and helps prevent breast cancer! Need I go on?!
2{dos}:Lower cholesterol
Three{tres}:Anti-aging
Quads{cuatro} thru {infinity and beyond}:Stroke prevention, eye health, better nutrient absorption....etcetera, etcetera, etcetera!
Learn more about them
and {here}

Anyway, what can I say, they speak for themselves! I know you're already reaching for that bag of chips and salsa so you can make some guacamole! BUT WAIT!!!!! Before you use up that whole avocado, set aside a tablespoon of it for a special therapeutical treat:
DIY Avocado Facial

Take that tablespoon of avocado that you set aside {approximate} and mash it up until it's all sorts of mushy! Then, lather on a clean, dry face and let sit for about 10 minutes! Rinse and.....ta-da! Introducing the softest face you've ever had!

Now, if you're like me, you're going, "Put an avocado on my face?! YEAH RIGHT!!" And you're right, it sounds crazy! I was saying the exact same thing. My face is the most temperamental thing you'll ever see, so it took my mom {a Mary Kay sales rep and all-around makeup goo-roo} a few times trying it and convincing me my face wouldn't erupt into a mountain of oozing zits before I tried this wonderful DIY spa trick.  But let me just say, it's now part of my weekly masking ritual. The skin perks of this mask include: Vitamins A & C {both help with anti-aging}, anti-microbial properties and oils to help moisturize. I'll stop there because I'm starting to sound like one of those late night infomercials! Read more about the health benefits here.

Let me know if you try it! If you're anything like me, I'm always up for anything all-natural!! I think my next step will be the banana facial! How much crazier can it get?!

flowers and dogs and husbands....oh my!

It was a Tuesday morning...nothing special about the day. In fact, I would actually consider it a little too drab and a lot too hot! {I don't know if I'll ever adjust to this Oklahoma humidity!} Anyway, I received a wonderful kiss goodbye from my hubs {all of his kisses are wonderful :) } and we both set off on our separate ways to work.  We both had a busy weekend and didn't get to spend much time alone together, which is always disappointing, but just a part of life sometimes!
Early in the afternoon, Matt told me he was going to try to come visit me and needed the address to where I was going to be {I change locations almost daily with my job}. Of course I gave it to him, because I love ANY excuse that I get to see his sweet smile with the dimple on the side!  Little did I know he had something else up his sleeve.  Later in the afternoon, these came parading through the office and landed on my desk! :)

Sigh.....
Have I mentioned that I really, Really, REALLY love him?! Because I do.

In other news, Lola is about to turn 1!!! Which means that I'm googling "doggie birthday parties" like crazy! Here are some of my favorite ideas so far....

cake {in pink of course!}

game {bob for the bone}
{source}

party favors {from Lola}
{source}

outfit
{source}

Ok, now realistically, Lola wouldn't keep an outfit on for five minutes....whether it's her birthday party or a movie premier!  But one day, when she grows out of her "I like to eat everything" stage, I'll buy her a cute outfit! Until then, we'll stick to cute collars! :)

A little bit of Dreaming

Remember how I said that I change my mind every 37 seconds?? Well this is one more post to support that.  Matt and I got a call this week informing us that our house {which we thought we sold} fell through and we're at square one {yet again}. So after we got over our first initial disappointment.....we started dreaming!  Dreaming of places we would like to live, places we would like to travel, things we would like to experience! Our discussion began with, "After we sell our house....what do we want to do?" We both agreed buying probably isn't the best option for us right now {I know, a stark contrast from what we were thinking, well, ummm....37 seconds ago?! Haha}, so our next option is renting.  Then we threw out the possibility of moving away completely....and that's when things got really fun!!
But let me back up a little, because this all started with a dream I had the night before. A dream in which I was super angry at Matt for one reason: he didn't want to move to Hawaii. In my dream, I had this brilliant idea {because I'm full of those} that we should move to Hawaii because we had nothing holding us back. We're young. We're free. Heartache to heartache we stand. No promises or demands. Errrrr...wait....isn't that a song?! Maybe it was serenading my dream. Anyway, I kept telling Matt how we just needed to take a risk because we have nothing holding us back, and in my dream, he shot me down. Hard. Which is why I wouldn't talk to him for ten years {in my dream, of course!}.  When I told Matt about my silly little dream, we both kind of laughed at the stupidity of it, and then Matt got this look in his eye and he goes, "Why don't we move there? We seriously have nothing holding us back! I think I would make a pretty good beach bum!" Then I got really excited and started talking really fast {much too fast actually} and it all went uphill from there!  We started throwing out different ideas of where we could work {and yes, a sno shack was on that list! Haha!} and live....and then we ventured a place a little more east of where we live....then a place a little west.....we actually went all over of places we would love to live and travel to!! Here's our top picks so far:

Hawaii......Because.....
honestly, there's not one person that has been to Hawaii that doesn't want to move there!  It really is a tropical oasis that is unlike any other place I've ever been! Absolutely beautiful and breathtaking!  I can already feels the sand in between my toes!

Italy
Matt and I always talked about going to Italy together. We even had that on the list for possible honeymoon destinations!  Secretly, I think Matt wants to go because he's a pizza-holic, but I don't even care! It seems like a place where time stands still....and I've always wanted to ride on a gondola! :) Plus, Italian is probably one of the most beautiful languages I've ever heard spoken! Ciao bella!

Irealand.....because....
Both Matt and I have always wanted to travel to Ireland, even before we met each other! I had always thought it was a beautiful place, but I sort of became REALLY obsessed with it after I watched P.S. I Love You.  Gerard Butler is the only other man besides Matt that has my heart! Sometimes I can hear them battling for it at night. My sister and I actually had a trip planned there for spring 2009. We were going to fly there {with a discounted rate due to my dear flight attendant of a sister} and stay in hostiles in between backpacking excursions through different towns and pubs. Adventurous and romantic?? Yes! Only one problem. Before we had a chance to leave, a dark haired man came along and stole my dear sister's heart with promises of marriage and much Chilean food. Needless to say, she fell for it and our trip got canceled and replaced by a solo {meaning only my sister going} trip to Chile. My brother-in-law, although I love him, is still in-debted to an Irish getaway!

So that's what we're dreaming of these days! Are we being realistic....will it ever happen?! Maybe...who knows! I may be criticized for dreaming too much and sometimes too big and a little too unrealistically, but if we don't have our dreams, we aren't left with much else to hold on to! As my dear friend Cinderella, so eloquently puts it...

A dream is a wish your heart makes
When you're fast asleep

In dreams you lose your heartaches
Whatever you wish for, you keep
Have faith in your dreams and someday
Your rainbow will come smiling thru
No matter how your heart is grieving
If you keep on believing

the dream that you wish will come true

So this is us dreaming! :) One of my favorite past times! Who knows what will come of it....but we're excited to find out!!

{to die} faux

So I am one of those people that's always full of new ideas that, at the time, seem like such a great thing and I get all excited and passionate about it!!!.....and then, it never happens. Call it a problem with follow through, but I prefer to think of it as a clashing combination of A.D.D. and creative juices flowing way too freely throughout my body! {Did someone just say squirrel?!} Anyway, I thought that I'd share with you the newest "kick" that I'm on...sponsored by the oh-so-fabulous ka-ka-ka-Kara! {She just started a blog that I think is absolutely hilarious! Check it out here!}  Anyway, she's a stay-at-home momma {to one of the sweetest little boys who refers to me as "Marnie"} who's super creative and has an amazing voice! {Seriously, when she becomes famous and is on stage with her long blonde hair and bare feet singing her pretty little heart out, I'll be able to say, "I'm the one who gets pedicures with her!"}  Oh how I love a good pedicure! Now you know what I'm talking about when I say A. capital D.D.!  Back to the "kick"....Kara casually mentioned to me that she had been thinking about taking a class down in Dallas to learn how to faux paint and asked if I would maybe be interested in doing that with her.  Umm....would I ever?!  Talk about a fun job!!  How fun would it be to be able to remodel furniture and go into houses, changing the entire look and feel of a room?! I love the idea! I've been telling Matt for quite a while now  that I hope that one day, I'll be able to find a job where I'll make lots of money and be able to come and go as I please {sounds like a nice dream, right?! Good thing I like dreaming! :)}  Don't get me wrong, I just started a new job and I'm SOOOO thankful for it {and the people I work with are pretty, well really, great!}, but I would just ell-oh-vee-eee a job where I would get to be creative! So in honor of this new "kick", here are some of my favorite faux creations! :)

Fab Five Favs {for summer}

I need to preface this first one with this thought: I never thought I would EVER wear lipstick!! I've always been a chapstick and occasional lip gloss kind of girl.  But ever so slowly I've been expanding my views and have since dipped my feet into the pool of lipstick colors!  It started with the ever-so-scandalous red lipstick a few months ago and since then I've discovered this awesome lip color by Mac! Welcome to my lips Vegas Volt! A great summer-esque shade {coral...right in between bright pink and orange} that will look so great once my body turns a shade of tan! Ahhh....I'm sooo ready for summer to be here!
Like it?? Get it here!
