Dry Shampoo and Red Lipstick

Sometimes when I get home from work, the first thing I do is put on red lipstick.
Husband keeps asking why I do this, and my response is, "I'm practicing!"
Practicing for what, you might ask. The truth is, I really have no idea. And thank goodness husband has never asked that question. Because if he did, this is what my real answer would be {performed in true melt-down style}:
"I've had a long day of coughing in my ear, crying on my shoulder and sneezing on my keyboard. So right now, I want to feel girly. Yes, I'm aware my hair hasn't been washed for four days and I'm wearing a hippie shirt and pajama bottoms, but I need something, anything, to inspire me! So right now, I'm going to play make-believe and pretend like I've been wearing this lipstick all day while parading around Paris in my heels {which also happen to be red}. Yes, I do want to feel pretty every day. And yes, I am aware that washing my hair more often would help achieve that. But when all else fails, there's always dry shampoo and red lipstick!"

So here I sit.
Hippie shirt.
Pajama bottoms.
Five-day old hair, nested on top of my head.
And red lipstick.
Total.Glam.

Much to-do about Disney!

Husband had some great news the other day.
He informed me that Cinderella {a.k.a. the movie solely responsible for every little girls' dreams} is going to be released from the Disney vault!
Vault: the holder of all things wonderful and Disney. Why must you hold childrens' dreams captive?!
So, needless to say, I wasted no time adding it to the top of my birthday list!
{Oh hey, my birthday is in less than one month!!! It's the big TWO-FIVE!!!! Eeeek!}
It seems fitting that the movie should be released in time for my birthday.
Cinderella practically raised me.
When you're little, most children pray that God would bless their food at dinner time. But nope, not me. At dinner time, I prayed that Cinderella's step-mother and sisters would be nice to her. Those are the things that really matter, folks. I had my priorities straight!
So did my mom. And that's why my Cinderella time was cut in half. A drastic move, if you ask me.
Nonetheless, our relationship held strong.
And that's why she's at the top of the bday list twenty-five years later.
However, the vault {the true Disney villain} thought it better for me to wait until after my birthday to release Cinderella. {See, I told you. Vault = Villain}
Alas, I will have to wait until October 2nd to be reunited with my dear friend!
But it's okay, I have my dear Belle to get me thru until then.
You see, Cinderella may have raised me, but Belle is who I became.
Don't believe me??
Here's proof:

You see, not only do we both have brown hair and matching horses, but we both love adventures, reading {the same book over & over}, eating food while being entertained by utensils, singing original songs {Disney has yet to get their paws on mine}, and laying in the middle of the field while wishing on a dandelion. And don't even get me started on how much we both love castles and baguettes! Let's just say, Jef and Emily pretty much stole our {Belle & mine's} dream date in the library. Really, Emily?? You're not even a brunette. At least steal your date ideas from a princess who resembles you. I bet Sleeping Beauty could give you plenty of great ideas! Wandering thru the forest barefoot, baking a cake, wearing a dress that changes from blue to pink?? Although, I would avoid any relating to spindles or sewing machines.

You want to hear something even more magical?! When my sister and I went to Paris a few years ago, we, of course, went to Disneyland! And guess who I met there? In her home country of France?!
Belle, herself! And as always, looking lovely.
{It should be noted that I did, in fact do my hair that day. But the rain and lack of sleep had other ideas on what a good first impression looks like.}

Oh hey, and Lumiere was there, too!

Yep, we were in heaven!
Don't you just love Disney?!

Easy-Peasy Guacamole Heezy

The girls and I were talking about vacations today....about umbrella drinks, big hats and guacamole....all things poolside! So of course, what do I crave the rest of the day?? Guacamole, of course! But not the guacamole that comes in a packet from the store, guacamole that has all things fresh! So here's what I came up with:

Easy-Peasy Guacamole Heezy
{Don't ask about the name...there really is no rhyme or reason. Okay, I lied. There is a rhyme. But definitely no reason.}
Ingredients {i.e. The Goods}:
1 Avocado
1 Small Tomato
1 Clove Minced Garlic
1/2 Tsp Lime Juice
1/4 Tsp Salt

Directions {kind of overrated.}:
Cut and core avocado. Scoop into bowl.
Wash and dice tomato. Add to avocado mixture.
Stir until avocado has a smooth .
Mince garlic and add to mixture. Stir.
Add lime juice.
Salt to taste

See?? I told you! Easy-peasy! The best part is that this takes 10 minutes from start to finish. Aaaand is a mean competitor to any restaurant style guac! The other best part? Everything is fresh and natural! Farewell guac packs! You will not be missed.

Have some leftover avocado? Try this. Your face {and you} can thank me later.

Coffee Talk

Today was one of those mornings.
One of those mornings when you're exhausted from the not sleeping and then sleeping too long.
One of those mornings when you're running late already, only to finally get in your car and spill  breakfast all over your lap.
Out of the car I go.
A change of clothing is in order.
And later still.
To work I go.
Then, a magical thing happens.
The magic that comes from a sip of that cool, leather looking liquid we call "Joe".
The world comes to a pause.
And one of those mornings disappears.
And the day is brand new.
And now, today is a day of big hair, feather earrings and oversized glasses.
Thank heaven for Joe.

Yes, friends. This is how much I love coffee. That I would dedicate an entire post to nothing else.
Happy Thursday!

Drastic Measures

Two nights ago was Monday night.
Monday night means Bachelorette night.
And Bachelorette night means Marcie gets a little crazy.

For the untrained ear, one might think that all the yelling coming from the back room was for the Thunder vs. Spurs game {#THUNDERUP!!!!}.
But no, it wasn't.
The yelling was just me giving some friendly advice to my girl, Emily.
Anyway, to say I've become obsessed would be the understatement of the year.
Husband won't even watch it with me because of all the, quote, "loudness" that comes out of my mouth.
I don't know why he complains. Do I complain when he and his friends are yelling about an oval shaped ball?? No.
Bachelorette is much more interactive than any football game.
Reality tv at its greatest!
Which is why I have taken it upon myself to do something drastic.....
I have this friend.
This best friend.
Who is everything any guy would dream of having.
She's really got it all....looks, awesome personality, goal driven...American Pie at its greatest!
Which is why I've been telling her for the past year she needs to go on the show.
Friend doesn't believe me. She's too modest and sensible to have anything to do with the show.
She doesn't even watch it!! {I know, right?! How are we even friends??}
But luckily for her, she has me as a friend like me to prove otherwise.
And that's why I sent in her nomination for the show.
However, when I informed her of this event, instead of gratitude, this is the response I get:

A little sassy, right?! That's probably why we're best friends.
But I think I've got a lot more convincing to do before she'll let me submit the DVD portion.

Personality Test

Oh, hey!!!
It's just me. And my curly hair.
Yes, I have curls. And they sometimes like to go on adventures without adult supervision.
Notice the curl on the left.
Yep. That's one of them.
We're just sitting here {me and my curls}, waiting for husband to get home.
We {I} really miss that man when we're not together!
Good thing it's FRIDAY!!!!!
But in the meantime of me waiting for him, I thought I would share an awesome site Matt and I ran across the other night.
We're kind of nerds and loooooooove taking personality tests! Ha, don't ask me why, but we think it's super interesting! Just one of our little quirks, I guess.
So one day while husband was searching personality tests, he ran across one that was eerily accurate in describing the man. So eery that I had to take it and see if it did the same for me.
And it did.
This test not only described me to a "t", but also explained so much about why I do the things I do! It described why I love coffee, animals and my huge need to be surrounded by nature. {Cough, cough, hippie.} Haha! I was so excited after reading it and had a whole new appreciation for who I was.  I think so many times, we have this super version idea of who we wish we were, what we wish we liked, what we wished we looked like, etc.....and in the process of wishing ourselves away, we lose sight of all the awesome and unique things that make us, us! I've learned so many things this last year, and one of the biggest things is discovering who I'm not and becoming comfortable with it! On our journey to finding out who we are, I think it's just as equally important to find out who we're not. With that, we find a whole new appreciation for other people and their differences. We realize that we can't do it all and that other people's strengths and giftings make up for our weaknesses, and vice versa. It's been an awesome {and often frustrating} discovery. And one more cool thing {I promise}.....my personality type is called "The Artist". How awesome is that. That makes me feel, well, super artistic! And really creative. Which has been a HUGE part of the self-discovery journey I've been on  these past couple years! :)

But getting back on track, this personality test made me appreciate not only the way God created me, but also the way he created my husband! Husband's test revealed just as many awesome things about him and helped me understand and appreciate so many of the little quirks that are unique to Matt. We make quite a pair, the two of us. I'm the "earth loving, in-touch with nature, savor every sensation, process everything internally" type, while he is the "all-business, cut the details and give me facts, talk every emotion out and debate everything" type. Nearly complete opposites. But I guess that's why we're so good together! :)

So now after hearing me blabber on about this, I'm sure you're more than ready to get to know yourself!
Take the personality test here {click on "Free Personality Test" at the top}, and then after you find out what your personality type is {it will be 4 letters}, you can either
a.) pay $35 to the website to get the full description {BOOOO!!!!}, or
b.) Google it! This is what Matt and I did. Mostly because we're cheap. And we like free things.
So for instance, I found out my personality type was ISFP so I googled "ISFP Personality" and the best site we found for descriptions said something like "Portrait of an ISFP - Personality Page"

Get it? Got it? Good.

Pleeeeeease let me know if you take this and if yours was as accurate as ours! I'm extremely curious!!

A Little Less Manic Monday

Just another manic Monday?
Nope, not over here!
Lucky me, I didn't have to work today! :)
So here I sit on the front porch, drinking ice cold cherry coke.
Watching the clouds roll by.
Oh wait, isn't that a song?!
Why yes it is! A song that just so happens to parallel my life right now, if only the cherry coke were a sweet tea! This sweet tea, to be exact!
Oh, how I LOVE sweet tea!! It's the epitome of Southern living and I've totally embraced it!
Anyway, if you are having a manic Monday, let me share a couple things with you that totally made me smile!
The first one is a post by Amira over at Shades of Gray. This is the funniest story and will NOT disappoint!
Second, is this lovely music video by a few bloggers who's sites I adore! One of them is Ashley over at Adventures of Newlyweds.

And if that didn't un-manic your Monday, I don't know what will!
Happy Monday!! :)

Food Freak

I have a tendency {especially with food} to become overly obsessed with one thing and eat it {in abundance} over, and over, and over again until I can either a.) no longer stand the sight of it or b.) find something new to replace the obsession.

My current craving?
Oh, just this lovely burrito bowl from the oh-so-delicious Freebirds!

Toppled oh-so-high with jalepeños {yes, I like it hot!} and sprinkled with roasted tomatillo dressing!
Yum!!
Before this it was {and still kind of is} fruit smoothies.
At least they're healthy obsessions, right?!

But let's face it, we all have some weird food obsession. Or maybe that's what I tell myself so I can sleep at night.

Tomorrow's Friday!!!! TGIF!!!
Any fun plans for this Easter weekend?

The Outfit Diaries: Sequins

So I'll admit, some days I'm super proud of how I can take things that I've had for years and create a totally new outfit out of them! As much as I {and any girl for that matter} would love to go out and buy everything that I pin on Pinterest, the complete lack of Benjamins {& Washingtons, for that matter} makes that probability highly unlikely!
So instead, I present to you {or myself}, the outfit diaries. To be used on days when I stand in my closet, staring at all my clothes and swear I have nothing to wear. This can be my reminder. And yet another creative outlet! Ka-ching!

Who says sequins are only for New Years?!
The thing I'm loving about the styles right now is the pairing of opposites. Leather and Lace. Stripes and Floral. Blazers and Tee-Shirts. And in my attempt, sequins and flannel!

So ladies {and probably not gentlemen}, today's outfit includes: Mossimo Flannel shirt {Target}, Mossimo Sequin Tank {Target}, Navy Boyfriend Blazer {Nordstrom}, IT Skinny Jeans {Nordstrom}, Steve Madden Nude Flats {DSW}

Call me un-American....

So while the rest of America is intently fixed to their tv screen to watch the other annual event that divides America {the first event being the presidential race}, I am taking advantage of this Super Bowl opportunity to have a tv all to myself {if you don't count Lola and Piper}. This includes a New Girl marathon, catching up on my favorite blogs and eating all the yummy, delicious food that comes along with the day!

Really though, my New Girl marathon ends up being a re-run of one episode that I've already watched about 37 times! So if you're part of the 0.157% of Americans that don't watch the Super Bowl, you can join me {and Lola and Piper} in watching this oh-so-fantastic new series! :) So don't feel un-American because Zooey Deschanel is about as American Pie as it gets!

Happy Super Bowl!

Lemon Drop

I've recently discovered {and maybe become obsessed} with a group called Pistol Annies. They're a sort of underground country group, that at first, I was very hesitant to even give a chance simply because I'm not a huge Miranda Lambert fan. But then, I listened. And the obsession began. Think of Johnny Cash meets Norah Jones meets Dixie Chicks. A recipe for amazing! Exactly what country songs were meant to be....stories told around the campfire. Something that the everyday person can connect with. I absolutely LOOOOOOVE them! Maybe it's because of how I relate to "Boys from the South"....uhhemmm I married one....or maybe because of how "My Life is Like a Lemon Drop".....or maybe it's because it fits the fall season so well. And yes, seasons have sound tracks. So go ahead and splurge! Download the album, grab yourself a cup of Joe and give it a listen! A guaranteed recipe for a delightful day! :)

Here's just a sample. Listen and love!

A hobby of compromise

Next thing on the update list...Matt and I were going through a list of items, trying to figure out a hobby that we would both enjoy. My list involved all things "North Face" {or so he calls them}, the usual rock climbing, kayaking and biking. His involved pretty much everything opposite of that, but both our eyes lit up when we ran across the word "Photography."  I had taken a class in high school and a college course, but hadn't really used my camera for a couple years. We found him a camera online that needed a few repairs, but luckily he is the fix-all handy-man that isn't even intimidated by SLR digital cameras and was able to fix it!  This equaled two things for us: a major steal of a deal and an opportunity for us to enjoy each other's company while flexing a little bit of our creativity muscles!! We had so much fun and I will admit, it was fun being able to "model" for my hubs! Haha! Here's a few of our combined favorites! :)

that time, again....

It's that time, again!
The time where I get sick of my hair and need something fresh and new!
I've taken on Kate Beckinsale {I know, she's lovely!} as my hair inspiration.
This is the color I'm considering:

And a couple more views because, really, who can't get enough of Kate?!

Gorgeous. Anyway, I've also kept the possibility of more blonde on the table. Husband is not helping with the decision at all because every time I ask him which one he likes the best {blonde or brunette}, he says, "Babe, you look good both ways! I don't have a preference." Sweet, yet aggravating. I am officially the worst decision-maker ever!!! To top it off, I'm on the hunt for a new hair lady because mine moved away. Tear. I sometimes wish I was one of those people who could go to Super Cuts and not care about the chain saw massacre that happens to my hair. But alas, I'm not! I probably am a little too picky when it comes to my hair. But let's face it ladies, if your hair isn't happy, then you're not happy! It doesn't matter how good your makeup looks or how cute your clothes are.....if you have a bad hair cut, you might as well not even get ready in the morning! {At least it feels that way!} So wish me luck, and send any Tulsa hair-lady recommendations my way...I'm on the prowl!! Also, suggestions on the never-ending blonde vs. brunette question would be greatly appreciated! :)

One for One

This is why I love TOMS.

Of course, these might have something to do with it, too....

Can't wait to add some more to my collection! :)
